Android's Mallware and Security Exploits

There’s a host of Android A/V programs on their way. The ones I recommend today are AVG’s AntiVirus and Lookout Mobile Security. In addition to A/V defenses, both programs feature handy utilities to help find your phone if it goes missing and ways to keep a thief from stealing your information even if they get your phone. Regardless of what Google does, I highly recommend getting one of these two programs.

Fine article from the Linux and Open Source gang at ZDNET, but this last paragraph gives me the sort of sick feeling I had whenever I would help a friend or family member out of some nasty virus/mall-ware bind, which almost always required a full blast re-install of windows.
I'd spend half a day trying to remove the mall-ware, then failing that, the other half reformatting and reinstalling windows. I'd finish it off with an install of AVG and a friendly lesson on updating your virus protection and paying attention to where you are on the internet and what you are downloading. Knowing that at best what I was doing was giving them a false sense of security.
For the last several years things have changed and after spending a day downloading service packs I end the session with a friendly lesson and a recommendation that the next computer they purchase be a Mac. Now just about everyone I used to help is on a Mac and I rarely get called for questions about anything serious.
